Highlights of research on climate-weather interactions in South and East Africa

The talk will highlight the key results of 5 recently published papers: with a focus on climate and weather interactions in south and east Africa, using observational data and statistical methods.

Mark Jury

Short biography:

Mark Jury currently works as a professor of meteorology at Univ Puerto Rico. He grew up in Florida and got his BSc from FSU 1975. After moving to South Africa he completed a MSc and PhD at Univ Cape Town, while working at the SA Weather Service, SA Fisheries Service, and Electricity Commission. He started teaching in 1986 and moved to Univ of Zululand where he remains affiliated. During his time in South Africa he led many projects for WCRP, CLIVAR, and GOOS, and supervised many graduate students. He travels to Africa every year to give training workshops and courses, and also has started research in the Caribbean.
