Abstract:

The talk deal with analysis of macro parameters of clouds in the Arctic. Total cloud fraction over the Arctic has been evaluated and intercompared based on 16 cloud climatologies from different satellite and surface observations and reanalyses. A long-term climatology of cloudiness over the Atlantic Arctic and East Russian Arctic based on visual surface observations is presented. Interannual variations of total and low cloud fraction and morphological cloud types are estimated with its dependence on different variables (temperature, sea ice concentration, moisture budget, different circulation patterns etc.). Mechanisms of interaction between sea-ice and clouds are discussed.
