Opening of Bjerknes Research School in Climate Studies

From now on it will be easier for doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows to get an overview over the different courses offered by the University of Bergen.

Body

- The students have responded very positively to the establishment of the research school, which shall give them a better range of coursework and easier for the students to get the information they need.

The Bjerknes Research School for Climate Studies (BRSCS) shall provide a training site for national and international doctoral and post-doctoral students. In order to produce candidates at the highest international level the school emphasis to:

  • provide coordination and information of all existing UoB courses related to climate studies
  • strengthen the interactions between doctoral student, the post-doctoral fellows, and the research scientists through organized doctoral and post-doctoral seminars and discussion groups 
  • ensure recognition and identity of the school through common web pages and coordinated national and international marketing 
  • organize and coordinate specialized courses with invited top-level national or international scientists 
  • organize and coordinate summer schools focusing on different topics within the climate science
  • Seminars, specialized courses, and summer schools organised by the BRSCS will be open for all doctoral and post-doctoral students at the University of Bergen.

The formal opening of the research school is taking place Friday June 9 2006. Doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows whom have received invitations are encouraged to participate in the opening.
