Summer school on water, climate and society

Are you a PhD candidate or junior researcher interested in climate change and water? Join us in Bergen in June!

Body

The main theme of the Bergen Research Summer School in 2016 is Water, climate and society. The school offers seven courses for PhD candidates and junior researchers in various disciplines. The Bjerknes Centre is involved in two of the courses:

Climate change and water
Course leaders: Tore Furevik and Ellen Viste

Poverty, climate change and water in the context of SDGs
Course leaders: Noel Keenlyside and Alberto D. Cimadamore

The application deadline for all courses is March 1 2016.

Changing power

Increased knowledge of climate change creates uncertainty about water, Terje Tvedt, scientific leader of the summer school, notes in an interview. When the water takes new ways, the power balance also changes. You can read the full interview with Tvedt here, explaining why he considers our time to be the 'time of water insecurity'.

The course on climate change and water will give a general overview of how changes in the climate may influence the hydrological cycle. In addition, we have chosen some focus regions with water challenges that will be discussed in more detail. A brief introduction to one of them, the Sahel, can be found here
