2 years PostDoc in ocean biochemical modelling
Application deadline: 31st August 2025
About the position
The role of the postdoc is to disentangle the mechanisms of biological carbon pump and its contributions to the global carbon cycle in the past, present and future scenario projections from Earth system models. Knowledge of observational data related to the biological carbon pump (BCP) will be applied to improve and validate model simulations to (i) minimize the discrepancies between measured and modelled historical ocean carbon sinks, (ii) elucidate key mechanisms driving BCP changes, and (iii) constrain the uncertainties in Earth system models projection of BCP across a wide range of scenarios, including but not limited to marine based carbon dioxide removal and extended stabilization scenarios that comply with the Paris Agreement climate targets. The successful applicant will collaborate closely with ocean physical and biogeochemical scientists at NORCE, Bjerknes Centre, as well as with OceanICU project partners. The work will utilize the in-house Norwegian Earth System model NorESM but also a suite of ESMs from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project. In addition to contributing to project deliverables, the postdoc is expected to publish research results in high-level peer-reviewed scientific journals, and present results at relevant conferences, seminars, project meetings, or workshops.
