Seminar: Current Trends of Oceanic Variability in Regional Simulation Of The Greater Agulhas Current System & Projected Changes In Climate Models

Tidspunkt

25. oktober 2024, 11:15-12:00

Sted

Bjerknes lecture room (4th floor, room 4020)

Dear all,

This Friday at 13:15-14:00 Dr. Issufo Halo, one of this years Bjerknes Visting Fellows, will give a seminar.

Dr Issufo Halo is visiting from 22. October to 2. November.  He is a scientist based at DFFE (Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Cape Town, South Africa), his scientific expertise focuses on ocean dynamics in the greater Agulhas Current system and with specialisation on interaction between large-scale currents and mesoscale processes.

The overall goal of the visit is to establish future scientific research collaboration between scientists from the Bjerknes Centre and the South African Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environmental, to foster a better understanding of the ocean dynamics in the Agulhas Current system, and address questions of future climate projections in the region.

If you want to meet him while he is visiting, please contact Annette Samuelsen (annette.samuelsen@nersc.no).

Carbon System Group meeting

Dear all, we would like to invite you to a Carbon System Group meeting (17.02., 13-15:00h, BCCR undervisningsrom in the 4th floor) focused on dialogue and strengthening cooperation within the group. We would like to: discuss the strategy currently being developed at the Bjerknes Centre and openly discuss concerns related to this strategy explore new meeting formats that are more interactive, better connected to ongoing activities, and supportive of collaboration and networking Inspire cooperation by inviting 10 people (chosen alphabetically on the group list - you will receive an additional email if you are among the chosen ones) to give a very short presentation (2–3 slides, 3–5 minutes) addressing: What you will work on in the next 12 months What you would love to do scientifically if there were no constraints What kind of cooperation or expertise would help or be needed to make this scientific wish possible Our aim is to find a way of meeting that is useful, engaging, and relevant to you, and that helps us stay up to date while strengthening scientific cooperation across the group. We very much hope you will join us for this session and contribute to shaping both the strategy discussion and a meeting format that works well for the Carbon System Group. If you have thoughts or wishes regarding the meeting format or topics you would like to see addressed, feel free to share them with us. All the best Nadine and Are

BCCR X-theme Seminar: AMOC

Dear all, The AMOC is a heavily discussed topic in the Climate Research Community. Even though it is perceived as a conveyor belt, which would imply a fully closed and coherent system, there is growing discussion suggesting a more intricate and dynamically variable structure. Hence, we are delighted to announce our monthly BCCR X-Theme seminar next week on Monday, February 2nd, at 11:00, with the title “AMOC”, presented by Marius Årthun, Malte Jürchott and Martin Miles. Marius Årthun will present "Status observations and projections”. Malte Jürchott will present “Analysing tipping dynamics of the AMOC in NorESM2 - current status and future plans”. Martin Miles will present “Impacts of AMOC collapse”. Following the three presentations, a general discussion about the topic will take place. We hope to see you there! Best regards, Fiona and Johannes
