About
My working interests include:
Ocean modelling: understand the roles of ocean circulation in the climate system with numerical ocean general circulation model.
Tracer oceanography: study ocean ventilation, infer ocean carbon storage, and estimate water mass transport by applying statistical models with observed and simulated anthropogenic tracers (e.g., CFCs) .
Radioactivity in marine environment: estimate the sources, spreading, and diffusion of anthropogenic radioisotopes (e.g., Iodine-129, Uranium-236) in the ocean with observed and simulated radionuclides.
Lagrangian particle tracking: understand the ocean horizontal gyre circulation and meridional overturning circulation from the Lagrangian perspective by tracking water parcels.
Tools for model diagnostics and benchmarking: develop tools and workflow for managing, post-processing, diagnose and benchmark big datasets generated by earth system models.
Selected projects

Infrastructure for Norwegian Earth System Modelling phase 2
NorESM is the Norwegian Earth System Model and is an essential tool for researchers to be able to simulate the climate in the past, present and future. The infrastructure project INES2 will upgrade NorESM with new and updated functionality by incorporating research-driven development in a nationally coordinated manner.

Overturning circulation in the new Arctic
Arctic climate is rapidly changing, and it is currently not known how the Arctic overturning circulation is responding. ArMOC will provide comprehensive understanding of the entire Atlantic Water Boundary Current (AWBC)system around the Nordic Seas and the Arctic Ocean from observations, novel insights on Atlantic Water (AW) pathways and transformation within the Arctic Ocean and a first quantification using the approach of thermohaline stream functions.
