Linking ocean/atmosphere-system to solar variations

A study in Nature Communications shows that the large-scale variations in the coupled ocean-atmosphere system are influenced by the solar cycle. This important finding can contribute to the improvement of the long-term climate predictions.

Geoengineered Atmosphere?

Injecting particles into the atmosphere would reduce the temperature increase. But for the world’s ecosystems there is no alternative to mitigation efforts.

Using large ensembles to investigate the atmospheric response to El Niño

El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) influences the weather over the whole globe. Clio Michel writes about new research on the accuracy of future changes in the atmospheric response to ENSO, provided the targets of the Paris Agreement are met.

Record high CO2 emissions in 2023

Global CO2 emissions have increased from last year. This brings both emissions and the CO2 content in the atmosphere to a record high.

Storm Tracks – A Conveyor Belt of Warm Moist Air

Professor Camille Li works on storm tracks, the warm, moist conveyor belt that deliver storm after storm to us here in Western Norway and the British isles. Learn how these storm tracks works, how they will change and the research Camille Li and her colleagues are conducting at the Bjerknes centre for climate research.

Our host, the NERSC researcher Stephen Outten and editor and associate professor Ingjald Pilskog, talk with Camille Li about why we are getting wet here in northwestern Europe.
