Understanding climate
for the benefit of society

Renee Hageman

In my Ph.D. project, I research the difficult to reach land, namely deep-sea sediments. Specifically, I focus on the cycling of essential elements such as carbon. These elemental cycles are profoundly influenced by microbial metabolisms. Therefore, I assess the microbial contribution to elemental cycling across the worldwide deep ocean floor. To achieve this, I employ reactive transport models that consider diffusion, advection, and microbial reactions. These models along with in situ measurements allow me to evaluate the impact of microorganisms on elemental cycling processes.
